FACT Figures released by the Department of the Environment show that 18,000 dogs were destroyed at dog pounds across Ireland in 2003. In Scotland with almost 6 million people, only 800 stray dogs are killed in pounds each year. In New Zealand, a country with the same human population as Ireland at 4 million people, 3000 stray dogs are destroyed annually. The latest Irish statistics are almost thirty times worse than Scotland and six times worse than New Zealand.

FACT An unspayed female cat, her unneutered mate and all of their offspring, producing two litters with 2.8 surviving kittens per year, can total 11,606,077 cats in only nine years.

FACT One dog and all of her offspring, producing an average litter of four once a year, can total over 4,000 dogs in just seven years!
